Hello, this is HaYoung.

Storyteller, I seek to transgress the cultural, political and linguistic boundaries through which I move, blending personal voices with collective memories.
I work with video, sculpture, drawing and perfume in installation formats that
play on the complexity and misunderstandings that govern pixelated worlds.

Standing at the border in the words of Toni Morrison, I deconstruct the languages of physical and digital world systems by embodying intermediary beings who address marginalized identities, their histories, struggles and relationships. Transiting between media, languages and finally spaces, my compositions function as rhizome ecosystems.

Navigating through the languages and systems that surround us - whether digital, cultural or social - I explore questions about the construction of identity. How does the overdose of information on the web and the structures imposed by dominant systems shape our perception of ourselves and others? How can we reappropriate these narratives to deconstruct ourselves?
